I was excited for this month’s dinner. Of course, I am always excited for our NHN family dinners, but this month I was particularly looking forward to it. Why? I was making one of my all-time favorite dishes, which includes the mother of all delicious secret ingredients – Crème Fraîche. Crème Fraîche is a wonderful French soured buttercream. While it may sound like Amercian sour cream, it is much more on the creamy side and less on the sour side. And just all-around amazing. I was confident in my meal choice and very confident that Lesley would also find this dish heavenly. Not to mention, the only meat that I would have to cook was bacon, and I can definitely do that. Lasagna is by far one of the world’s best foods. It doesn’t get much better than the multiple layers of multiple cheeses sandwiched together by pasta and flavored with garlic. It makes my mouth water just thinking about it. The problem with lasagna, though, is the time that it takes to cook it. This past week, Aldi has had avocados on sale for $0.49 each! I love avocados but the thought of spending a dollar (or sometimes more) on one piece of fruit just doesn’t sit well with me. Not to mention, I have a hard time timing the eating of them right. I know that you are supposed to buy them when they are somewhat tender but, I swear, whether I buy them hard as a rock, squishy, or somewhere in between, at least half of it is bad when I open it. So, half of my dollar goes to waste. I have learned now, though, that Aldi is really the only place you should buy avocados. Not only are they half the price of other chain grocers, they are not half disgusting when you peel them. (more…)
I love spinach. Story, not so much. So I try to sneak it in recipes as often as I can. This recipe is one of my favorites. Because Story helps in the kitchen now, she knows that there is spinach in it, but she still loves it. That is most definitely a win! Did I mention this is cheesy?
