Dad’s Famous Grilled Potatoes

Growing up, my dad didn’t cook a lot, but when he did, it was always really good. He typically spent a lot of time on his dishes, and the result was always really great. Except for a couple, which led to some traumatizing flavor experiences. For example, Borscht. Of course, there were times when we weren’t in need of anything fancy, and he felt like firing up the grill. It was these times that he whipped up the most fantastic grilled potatoes. They weren’t his usual extended-time recipes, but their flavor was always amazing and I couldn’t get enough. (more…)

Cookie Dough Bar

This past weekend, we celebrated Maddie’s second birthday with the Nurture Her Nature family. Even as I type that sentence, I can’t believe that it is true. How did her second birthday come so quickly? Her attitude fully lets me know that she is indeed a two-year-old, but to me, she is still the sweet five-month-old baby pictured in our About Us section. Mom’s Extra Special Peanut Butter Treats

If I had to describe my diet growing up, I would say that it consisted of beef ramen noodles, Kraft Macaroni and Cheese, and Dr. Pepper. I cross my fingers every day that that mixture of nutrition doesn’t come back to bite me. It was my diet of choice. I like to look back and fantasize that my poor mother just didn’t cook any meals and I had to do what I had to do. That, of course, isn’t true, but the fantasizing has done a number on my memory. When I look back at my childhood, I can remember my mom cooking two things: Grammy’s Mac and Cheese and her extra special peanut butter treats. There was one fateful night of borscht, but we won’t go into that horror story here. (more…)
