Leaving on a Jet Plane for the High Seas

This coming Tuesday, the NHN family will be leaving on a jet plane. The packing list has been made and beach-ware bought (although probably not packed until the night before). The airplane ride will be Maddie’s first and the first one that Riley will actually be able to remember. Having traveled by air to Philly when she was four, Story plans to show them the ropes. For their own preparation, the girls have been enthralled with studying YouTube videos of planes taking off at night. The excitement is palpable. (more…)

Grilled Cod with Garlic Lemon Butter and Lemon Asparagus Orzo

May was busy. Very busy. This one month held Riley’s preschool graduation, Maddie’s third birthday, a full weekend work event, and a family vacation. Phew. Not to mention it was the first full month of good weather and my parents’ newly built lake house. We didn’t slow down for much. The whole month seemed to take only a week to go by. As we got around to our June dinner at Lesley’s house last night, I was a bit surprised to realize that I hadn’t posted our May dinner yet! (more…)

An Eager Graduate

Almost a month has gone by now since one of the biggest life events Riley has had — preschool graduation — and I would be remiss not to fill you in. If you remember, Story’s preschool graduation week was brimming with misfortunes brought on by anticipation. If Lesley is not one of those moms to get sappy over something like preschool graduation, I certainly am. So, I was expecting nervousness, unprovoked crying spells, and preoccupied thoughts. Choosing a Great Summer Camp or Daycare: What to Look For

The places we send our children during the day–school, camp, daycare–require a certain measure of trust from all parents. You drop your child off expecting that they will receive the best care and will learn and play in a safe environment; yet in some cases, the facility is understaffed or doesn’t meet the needs of all children. It can be a very stressful thing to find the right program for your child, but it doesn’t have to be.
