Last Sunday we returned from our wild Florida adventure. It was a whirlwind week with lots of sights and experiences. Just the way I like a vacation to be! In total we covered over 2,800 miles and visited eight different towns. As promised, here is my summary of our adventures:(more…)
Story and I have a lot in common: we love stories, we laugh obnoxiously loudly at our own jokes, we can sleep hard anywhere anytime, we take great pleasure in a good argument, and so on. However, there is one way in which we are complete opposites. I have always been amazed by, and perhaps a little envious of, her nonchalance at taking the stage. She has been the center of her play for as long as I can remember. Yet, it never ceases to astound me.(more…)
This Saturday, the girls and I became road warriors, at least for a week anyway. At 6 am that morning, we set out on an adventure that was sure to bring us to wondrous places, but also test our fortitude. We embarked on a rite of passage that I wasn’t expecting to put the girls through – the family road trip to Florida.
Florida is not typically a destination that I think of when it comes to a family vacation. More of a mountain and forest girl, I tend to stick to those environments. When we did our NHN family vacation to Tampa and the girls saw the ocean for the first time, I had marked it off my list as done. This March, however, my cousin planned a wedding in Boca, and it just so happened to coincide with Riley’s spring break. So, we committed and made a plan.
Since it’s an expensive endeavor to get to Florida, I decided to make it count. It first started with a side trip to LEGOLAND, then another side trip to see the winter home of manatees, then another side trip and another side trip. Yes, we were going to make it count, by seeing almost all that Florida has to offer.
We are now at the end of the second day of this adventure, and coincidentally, it finds us in the Adventure Land room of the LEGOLAND hotel. So far, we have traveled a little over 1,000 miles. We have visited the first ever location of Chik-fil-A, the campus of the University of Florida (yes, I am turning into my parents), the most beautiful spot I have ever seen (Three Sister’s Park), and LEGOLAND Hotel. Tomorrow, we get to adventure in the actual LEGOLAND park — the girls’ first amusement park.
I’m sure that in the next two weeks I will retell all of these wonderful adventures, but for now, I’m exhausted.
Story has been taking horseback riding lessons for a while now and has loved every minute of it. That is, until she got a new instructor. After three lessons with this new horse master, Story decided she is definitely not a fan: “Mom, she’s just mean!” I, on the other hand, am crazy happy with this new instructor.(more…)
