This coming Tuesday, the NHN family will be leaving on a jet plane. The packing list has been made and beach-ware bought (although probably not packed until the night before). The airplane ride will be Maddie’s first and the first one that Riley will actually be able to remember. Having traveled by air to Philly when she was four, Story plans to show them the ropes. For their own preparation, the girls have been enthralled with studying YouTube videos of planes taking off at night. The excitement is palpable.
The destination for our family vacation this year will be Tampa, Florida. When looking for a spot to go this year, we were determined to find a direct flight that would not be too long. Those requirements led us to two options: Baltimore and Tampa. With all three of the girls having never seen the ocean, it was an easy choice.
With the choice made, we immediately began preparing the fun. Lesley found an amazing condo through Airbnb with a far fancier kitchen than anything we are used to and a bedroom for the girls complete with their own TV. Yes, we are dreaming of peaceful nights with the girls in their own room and us happily sipping rum runners in the kitchen chatting. Will it happen that way? Likely not, but a girl can dream.
Even if our evenings are filled with screaming girls making potty jokes, we still will realize the dream of riding in style on vacation. No, we didn’t rent a convertible, rather a minivan. It’s the stuff mom dreams are made of. We will be driving that minivan to many exciting locations, mainly the beach, but also the local aquarium that is home to the dolphin from Dolphin Tale. The most exciting of all, however, the pirate ship cruise! Yo ho! We imagine this adventure will be the highlight of the trip. After all, don’t all the naughty kids have to walk the plank? We should be free in no time! I joke. The three girls will make amazing swashbucklers. To prepare for the adventure, we have been delighting in a few pirate jokes. Here are just a few for your enjoyment.
What do you call a pirate with two eyes and two legs?
What did the ocean say to the pirate?
Nothing, it just waved.
How much does it cost for a pirate to get his ears pierced?
Why does it take pirates so long to learn the alphabet?
Because they can spend years at C!
How do you save a drowning pirate?
With C P ARRRRRRRRR
