I consider myself a pretty hip mom. Ali tells me that this belief in itself proves that I’m not. I may have to, begrudgingly, believe her considering what I learned this past week. I was schooled, yo.
I have a seven-year-old daughter who knows how to use my smartphone better than I do. I’m quite certain she was born with a skill set specific to her generation. While I have only one game for her on my phone and she’s allowed to play it only when I am with her, I still worry about her access. See, I’m hip to the dangers. Winter is finally on its way out as it makes room for spring. As I do every year, I’m working hard to resist the urge to spring clean every day. I also find myself reflecting back on the homeowner duties I neglected to follow through on this winter, such as winterizing the house. Spring cleaning is easy. Summer is on it’s way! It seems like much too early to say that, but this past weekend boasted temperatures of 60 degrees and that trend is holding strong for the upcoming week. I’ve tried not to get too excited. There is certainly plenty of time for another cold spell or two, but I just can’t help it. The clouds have let the sun through, and it feels amazing! I want to plant the garden, shop for summer clothes, and spend all waking hours outside. I also want fresh summer meals full of flavor. (more…)
A small downfall of being a single mom is the lack of pictures of the kids that actually include you in it. Like most moms of the 21st century, I have my phone on hand at all times to capture the small memories and moments that make up our everyday, but when I look back at the pictures, there is always a noticeable lack of me. Sure, there is the occasional family selfie but nothing that truly reflects our family and the times that we have together. Though I don’t particularly enjoy having my picture taken and tend to shy away from the lens anyway, it is nice to have a family photo record acknowledging that yes I was indeed there at least in a few pictures.
