One of my favorite parts about the holiday season is the abundance of mailers and catalogs in the mail. I’m a window shopper by heart, so when it comes right to my mailbox I’m in heaven. This year while browsing a particularly beautiful Wayfair catalog, I came across a series of four snowflake pictures that I really loved. Of course, like any good window shopper, I knew I wasn’t going to get them. The design was so simple, though, that I decided to turn these pictures into our holiday craft. (more…)
This holiday season, as with all holiday seasons before it, Santa was fast at work making his list and checking it twice. When it comes to list making, he is the master. Can you imagine how difficult it must be to be responsible for and track each person’s naughty or nice status and cross-reference it with what he or she wants? Even with the most advanced Excel skills, this would be a daunting task. But each year that jolly old elf manages to do it and, presumably, maintains everything he needs to in his own life.
We are moms, so we are so proud of our children’s artworks, glittered cards, construction-paper ornaments, decorated letters, and exuberant finger paintings. And then to find out these creations are made just for us for Christmas, well, that just melts our hearts. That’s what the holiday is about, after all — love, togetherness, appreciation. We are sincere in our sentiments and take them very seriously.

Your baby is actually taking off now, and as you chase the small one down the road, you may miss the golden days when she only studied her legs. Active is a good word to describe children at this age, and they prefer any game or toy that lets them throw their entire selves into it, such as swings, balls, and small climbing sets. (more…)
I found myself this fall in need of a change. It wasn’t a need spurred by my volition but one originated by the felines that also call my house home. Laziness, ill-temper, or just plain cat-ness has caused them to sometimes choose not to use the litter box. A really frustrating habit that made me realize it was time to get new floors. Interestingly enough, these two felines are the only male inhabitants of the house, but I digress. After some careful deliberation, I chose the flooring and in true go-big-or-go-home fashion decided to replace all of the downstairs flooring not just the afflicted area. I would need to take three days off of work to “supervise” the installation. (more…)
