Kids Eat Free!

In a one-income household, money matters. We create budgets, set up emergency funds, contribute regularly to our HSAs, and are picky about what we indulge in. The grocery bill alone can sometimes feel like an indulgence. Do we really need that organic milk? So where does eating out fit in all this?

child-798740__180In my household, eating out is a social necessity and therefore budgeted. I doubt Ali’s budget allows for it. She considers eating out to be a waste of money, and in many ways, it is. We can certainly cook the same meals at home and pay a fraction of the price for the same portion — and then have leftovers! But the value of eating out for Story and me is higher than the cost of the food. We take such opportunities to visit with people our busy schedules don’t allow us to see very often, to celebrate happy times, or just to reconnect with each other outside the home. But, again, my rational mind reminds me that eating out can be expensive. Therefore, I have created a list of places that have deals allowing kids to eat free. (Of course, you will need to check your local restaurant to be sure it participates in the deal before heading out.)
